Happy New Year, Everyone! I can’t believe we’re in 2012.
We are two days into the new year, and like everyone, I’m in the middle of writing my New Year’s Resolutions. One of which is to educate myself more fully in my trade by reading various blogs. My goal is to become a better working professional in the field of communications/marketing — my choice of study when I attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
It’s a lengthy story how I ended up choosing that field. However, I suppose you could say that it always intrigued me since I grew up in the media.
(I had my first interview before I was 1-year old.)
Anyway, I digress.
My first reading of the new year came from a blog posting entitled, Go Slow. Despite the warning, I decided to speed read through the article. How ironic.
It’s a short article, so I read it a second time; still skipping over words just to get the gist of what was taught. It wasn’t until my third round that I took the headline to heart and read the article slowly.
I was metaphorically sideswiped by a ton of bricks.
We live in a fasted paced world, which I alluded to in a previous posting. While brevity is important, and helpful in keeping on point, time is truly needed in order for value to set in — And value is education, relationships, health, anything of value… really!
I appreciated the counsel provided by this posting. What a great way to start off the new year.
Happy New Year!
May I leave you with one thought that has lingered in my head the whole time I’ve been writing this blog entry?
The faster you run, the easier it is to trip and fall.
Take that from a bobsledder who knows what he’s talking about… Ouch!
