My post this week is about the challenges facing many singles out there today — being laid off from a job. Of course I realize losing a job is not limited to the “single” population; it’s a wide-spread pandemic.
I suppose the message I tried to convey was the fact that, for a resilient single, losing is not the end of the world. There may be challenges that come with it, but overall (and with a little ingenuity) you can make any situation work out.
I hope you enjoy reading, Successfully laid off.
GREAT article!! My hubby was laid off in Dec 07, worked for 2 weeks in Dec 08 and then laid off again. We, like a lot of folks are really beginning to struggle however as you stated in your article, he is trying to pursue something else. He is a commercial electrician and is tired of working construction sites. I try to be supportive but it is hard sometimes as the only wage earner in our family. We have 7 children to support. (OK they are all kitties – LOL – but nonetheless, we love them all)
But – Don – you have a nice way with words and I enjoy reading what you write. Even though what you are writing for Mormon Times is directed towards the single population – there are lessons for all of us!!! Thank you for that!!!

Great article, Don. I’m one of those people who have been laid off before. Only once and that wasn’t even doing a recession.
It was 3 years ago. This was my first job out of college and in my field. Meteorology.
I should had known something was going to happen later that week when the boss man was getting rid of all the stations we do weathercast for. He told me to come in his office and gave me the bad news. I was let go I think a day later. My former co-worker quit because they were going to put her to part time…. Read More… Read More
Technically. Both of us aren’t in our fields anymore. I missed weather. I have been having a hard time getting a good job. Right now I work for a temp agency. I’m barely making money and I’m so struggling to paid my bills. I thank god I’m living with my mother because I would struggling big time.
I haven’t given up hope in finding a good job. Some days I want to give up. I’m soo frustrated every day, but it will come.
Great article, Don.

Great article, Don.
I was laid off April 30 from an Engineering company. It has been a personally traumatic year (family deaths and personal illness) so I actually surprised my boss by reacting very positively to his giving me notice. Why blame him or the company? It is the economy.
I have enough saved to keep me going for many months and I also feel everything happens for a reason.
I took a few personal weeks with a trip back to visit my mom. I also had a trip planned for this past weekend to see your dad and aunt in Vegas and figured that it would also do me some good. And it did..
I enjoy your blogs. They are insightful and energetic.
Thanks!
Dawn
