I figure this post is quite fitting since today is the longest day of the year.
While on a recent flight home from my Florida business trip, I was seated next to a mother and her young son. Just as we were landing at Salt Lake International Airport I overheard the following conversation:
Young boy: Mom. What time is it in Utah?
Mom: A quarter to nine.
Young boy: Wow! It’s still light outside.
Mom: That’s because Utah is closer to the equator than Florida.
Young boy: Cool!
Mom: Yep. In fact, we should be pretty close to that Summer Solstice line you’ve been learning about in school.
And we wonder why today’s youth are struggling in school.
I wonder where/if she graduated from college?

C’mon, Don.. you’ve never heard of the “Summer Solstice line”? It’s the longitude, and the Vernal Equinox is the latitude, and right smack dab in the middle is The Land of Nod.
Teehee!
Like Jilly said, at least she was making an attempt to talk with her son. I guess that’s better than ignoring him completely.
xox,
Mama C.
Sounds like Lillith the wife of Dr Frasier Crane in the “Frasier” TV show!
Scary Mummy!! Well at least she was communicating with him I guess!
I overhear lots of converstaions at work between parents and their children – they usually contain a 2 word response…… that being “shut up”…..so sad. My kids have always known to come to me for maths english and science homework and go to Dad for geography and history!! Has worked for us – acknowledge your limits I say
