Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull opened last night, and a close friend of mine invited me to go with her.
Though a fan of the Indiana Jones series, I rank this movie last out of them all. I just didn’t care for it. The movie was very formulaic and predictable. Even the cinematography didn’t hold my attention; I even saw scene sets from different movies (e.g. Dead Poets Society, Transformers, and the sound stage for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.)
The movie will obviously do well because of hype, but that’s about it.
The only redeeming factor about last night was the company; thank Kath! …and Jules, Natalie, Kate, and Amy

There seems to be no original content in a lot of movies these days, just recycling old ideas. I recently saw “Atonement” thinking the old 30′s theme would be interesting but was aghast when a pretty foul expletive appeared across the screen a few times. An interview I saw recently here with Harrison Ford about this new movie had him coming across as a bit of a grump. I don’t think I’ll bother even hiring a DVD of the film.
Recognizing scene sets from different movies? I don’t think I’ll have that problem. Sometimes I don’t recognize my own house.
I loved all of the other Indy movies, but I thought it was time to let a sleeping dog lie. I mean, really…is Harrison Ford going to be crawling around in musty old caves and fighting off bad guys when he’s in his 80′s. It’s time to leave the rough and tumble to the younger set, I think.
Interesting about the scene sets you spotted. I might just have to wait until it comes out on DVD and rent it, just to see if I can spot them, too.
At least your company made up for the lackluster film.
Any fun plans for the long weekend you’d care to share with us?
xox,
