So, this is just too good not to post; I hope my friend doesn’t mind me sharing this…
Devin called me up the other day as follow up to a date that he was very much looking forward to. He has been wanting to ask this girl out for… I don’t know how long! He finally mustered the courage and asked her out to dinner.
(For those who don’t know Devin, He is a great guy, and has a lot going for him. However, in the past it has been difficult for him to ask girls out. The Shy Guy, if you will. But, a heart of gold.)
Anyway, he asked this girl out for dinner last week — via voicemail. Apparently, she works a lot and he figured it would be worth just leaving a message. He knew she would call him back.
She did! (Mind you, she did wait till near the eleventh hour.)
The way Devin explained, it was pure elation!
–The Return Call–
“Hello, is this Devin?”
“It is.”
“Hi, this is Emily. You left me a message last week; just wanted to call you back…” (…and thus begins the chitchat.)
A little while later, Devin goes in for the ‘kill’ and asks her to dinner. “So, I was wondering if you would like to go to dinner with me this Thursday; do you like sushi?”
“I do. I mean… Yes!”
(Editorial note: As Devin is explaining this to me he says, “She said [I do] just as I imagined she has in my dreams.” ME: “Hold on there buddy! Yes, I know you like her a lot. But, keep your cool. Take your time and really get to know her.”)
Followed it up with a little more advice. He’s supposed to let me know how it goes later. He’ll be fine. But, I can’t wait to hear what happens on the date.
haha, I love it! So classic to be so excited for a date that you analyze and read into everything. It could make the date great or not as good as he had hoped for. My advice..listen to Don the “Date Doctor” and keep cool. Good luck!

Update: Apparently, there has been a little text messaging going on between the two of them.
I also got a question the other day about girls who just can’t seem to let guys go, after he breaks her heart.
Not sure how to best tackle that topic. Any suggestions? Personally, I would just tell her to get over it. But, that’s me being a sensitive male…

Yes, I would agree- the sooner you let it go the easier and better it gets. To be honest the key word is to just to let it go. Sometimes it does take awhile to get over someone, but once one comes to that terms, life is so much easier and less emotional. It’s easier to say then do, but giving up that hope of that specific person and focusing one’s efforts and emotions onto something new is much more progressive. The best way to get over an old boyfriend is to get a new one
So no i don’t think your being insensitive but the great Eagles song “Get over it” did come to mind, which is also a great cathartic tool-
