I realize the poll is not yet closed, and that a majority of you feel otherwise. However… I’m getting a bike!
Unfortunately, that means I have to save my pennies. I’m thinking it’ll be a Christmas present to me.
This is what I’m currently thinking…

Please be careful! I have 3 sons ( and a daughter but there is no way she would entertain the thought of a motorbike – and the horror of “Helmet hair”!!!), and I told them from a very early age that there was no way on God’s earth I would allow any of them to have a bike. Reason ? I have packed far too many young guys off to the mortuary after being hit by cars while they were on their bikes…I have consoled too many parents after having to tell them we had not managed to resuscitate their sons, and even those that we did save, a whole lot of them were either brain damaged or disabled for life. Doesn’t matter how careful YOU are, it’s the cars that cause the damage. At the end of the day, you have to decide whether or not it is a risk you want to take I guess. My kids have respected my decision..I know I cannot prevent them from all of life’s dangers, but having been so close to such events, I couldn’t handle the knowledge of them scooting around town!
Okay that’s me finished on my soapbox LOL!!!!
Just take care……and please wear the right clothes for biking, shorts and flip flops just don’t cut it!
Yeah, Rijon. That’s the bike I’m looking at getting. Awesome you were able to name it. I take it you’re an avid biker. My brother loves motorcycles.
And Amy… as for why I polled. I thought it would be fun to find out what people thought about the idea. Just thought I would let everyone share and put in their two cents. I was going back and forth on the idea, but during the poll, made my decision.
so what good is it to have a poll if you are going to do your own thing?
A VT1300S huh, or at least that is what the bike is in the pic you posted. Pretty sweet man. If you get your bike during the winter time, you more than likely to find a good deal on one. Because a lot of bike riders buy there bikes in the spring to get ready for the summer, at least that is how it was in Colorado. Good Luck!
I can totally see you riding that… Nice choice, my friend.
What kind of bike are you getting? May I suggest a Uraul? They are fun. When my dad had one, I loved to ride in the side car, and my dad said it was easy to remove the side car. They are bikes that look like they are from the 30′s- think WW2. That’s why I like them. You should get one. You really should.
Please be careful.
She’s a real beauty, Don. Treat her with respect, and she’ll take good care of you..sort of like a “real” relationship, yes?
Sure wish I knew where you lived; I’d ship you a big ole’ piggy bank, with a dollar in it, for luck!
(No… I’m not making a feeble attempt to flush out your address. Just my way of saying I respect your decision.
xox,
C.
I must say my heart sank a bit when I read this..but life cannot be lived wrapped in cotton wool. I had the same feeling when my son drove off in the car for the first time by himself. It looks like a nice bike (I like the colour). Just be careful and follow all the safety things. Have you seen “Wild Hogs”? Seeing John Travolta in that role was funny, considering I am from his “Saturday Night Fever” days.
Bad idea! What if it’s snowing at Christmas time?! Make it a 4th of July present to yourself.
That’s a lot of pennies. Good luck and be safe. Maybe you’ll meet a cute little biker girl. LDS of course!
Gee…how did I know?!
I’ve got to tell you though, Don. Now, I’m a little worried, since in the post right underneath this one, you admitted that you are addicted to speed.
So, just a couple little things to make myself feel better. While on a bobsled track, the object is to be the fastest, on a motorcycle riding the open road, there are these things called “speed limits”. Please try to adhere to these as best you can (though I realize this may be difficult). The other thing is, in the bobsled, you have three other guys to help you out in case you need it, on the bike, you are pretty much alone, so, um…..try not to black out on the bike.
Other than that….Good Luck and Be Safe, and let me know if you need to borrow a few “pennies”.
mmmmm…hot!
