Driving to work today I was thinking about the upcoming holiday – Halloween. And the thought that crossed my mind was, “Halloween is going to suck this year.”
With all the foreclosures the market is experiencing, kids are going to be knocking on vacant doors; no candy is going to be given out. I noticed there are three, maybe four homes in my neighborhood that have been foreclosed within the past couple months.
Then… I got sent this e-mail.

I think Halloween is the last thing people will be thinking about at the moment Don. It’s not such a big thing here in Australia, but you can certainly see the mood in the shopping malls. They’re empty. People have to go back to living frugally. Childhoods were fun back in my days before the electronic age, and parents did not have to fork out a lot of money. Even myself as a full time Mum, I am going back to outside work to assist the elderly. I feel so sorry for the poorer people and those who are retired who are really suffering.
THanks for bumming me out. And I was looking forward in seeing all of those Hannah Montanas, Harry Potters, and whatever else kiddos today want to dress like.
Driving to work today? I thought you were out of town?
Hey Don,
Well, foreclosures really hasn’t happened here in Canada yet, Oh, I imagine there are some but not the way it is happening inthe states. Actually people are buying bigger and more expensive homes, they are going to get caught. Communities are starting to do more of Holloween parties for the kids, as well as churches instead of the kids going from home to home. What kills me the most is that, in a short while we will see the same email but instead of the signs reading foreclosure, the kids will be carrying the sign that reads, “will work for food”.
OH MY GIDDY AUNT,
WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT ALL ABOUT,

HOW ON EARTH DO YOU FOLLOW THATTTTTTTTT.

Don, I think you are right, Halloween is going to suck this year.
Scary times indeed. And I can not help but fear that the economy is probably going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better.
I do think that since 9/11 there have been fewer and fewer little trick o’ treaters out each year, and of course when you add in living in a neighborhood riddled with forclosures galore, I t hink this year we will see very few trick or treaters.
Watch ~ I’ll be eating my own words and we’ll probably have more trick o treaters than we have in the last few years….
Guess I better stock up on candy…
I think people will rally. And if not, home made candy at my house. (and smoothies)
Osmond you realy know how to strike a cord don't you. You have know idea what you are talking about. But like you said "in your opinion right?" untill you have been there…… then compaire notes with someone who has.
Like you would say me every time I would see you "I'm too smart for my own good," so hang on for a ride Aussie.
Life sucks then you die, get over it. You know Sheri Dew's title of her book is "If life were easy then it woulden't be hard." Iife is heard but we humans need to complaine, and cry about things. Why? Human nature, when we are not in a state of bless then we complaine? Adversity makes us strong remember? Read D&C 122:7-9 that is one of the ways I make it though.
We have made the choice to come down hear to earth, so we need to take up responsibility for that choice. Now I am not saying take up responsibility for the actions of others. Heavens know's we can't do that, not our place. I don't care what happen to you, or how other's treated you. But we do need to start taking responsibility for our choice to come down hear to expirence mortality, what comes with that is the good and the bad of life.
Only by chance do you know my story, and yes inspite of my on going story. I would never, nerver hate my chance for the expirence of mortaility. I have over 10 years ago when I started to remember things, and you could not imagion how I felt. But by making the choice of comming to earth I know I have made the right choice. That is the responsibility I took up. What about you?
Ha! I just got that SAME e-mail in my mailbox this morning! I forwarded it to both of my chat groups, and to individual friends. I wrote, “Funny… but not so funny.”
Thankfully, the situation isn’t as dire here. No forclosure signs, but I have noticed lots and lots of “For Sale” signs, and even more “For Rent” signs. The cost of living is INSANE here in Massachusetts (a.k.a. “Taxachusetts”), so a lot of folks are getting out of Dodge.
Scary times we live in, my friend… scary times.
Darn, Don. What time do you have to be at work everyday? That’s why you’re soo tired all the time. LOL
Anyway. Back on the subject. Every year I always buy candy for there trick-n-treaters and they don’t come to my mother’s house. I spend 5 dollars on candy and we NEVER get them. And I don’t even see them on my street. My mother and I live on a cove. I just stop buying candy.
It is going to be interesting. I think I saw about 4 or 5 houses on sale myself. A lot of people are moving from my neighborhood. They might go around.
Oh Don. Speaking of Halloween. remembered when you did a blog on stores putting up holiday stuff. I saw one store on Friday have their Christmas stuff up already. Let me remind you its OCTOBER!!
Have a great day at work, Don. I hope everything’s well with your ribs.
