I was at Kneaders the other day, and I noticed the staff putting up new décor for the upcoming holiday – Halloween!
Did I miss something? Let’s see… It was August 25 when I visited. Halloween is on October 31. That would give us 67 days. Isn’t that being just a little eager for an upcoming holiday? I mean, the earliest I see Christmas decorations going up is after Thanksgiving, and that’s only about 30 days.
Just out of curiosity, what days are we skipping over from now to Halloween?
Sept 1 – Labor Day
Sept 2 – Ramadan
Sept 11 – Patriot Day
Sept 13 – Columbus Day
Sept 21 – International Day of Peace
Sept 22 – First Day of Autumn
Oct 9 – Yom Kippur
…and I’m sure that I’m forgetting some.

I was in Kmart today and they have their Christmas decorations out. I think that’s the earliest I’ve seen Christmas decorations out.
reading this post gives me the feeling that having my Christmas tree up with lights right now and presents underneath is not ok….
The worst I’ve ever seen was a few years back. We were back-to-school clothing shopping for my son in mid-August. It was at least 90 degrees outside, and we were all in shorts and t-shirts. But, when we took the escalator up to the second floor of J.C. Penney, it was as if we wandered into a winter wonderland! There were fully decorated Christmas trees EVERYWHERE, and the decorations were laid out on the tables underneath them, up for sale. My husband and I were both disgusted!!
It’s just another case in point that there’s WAY too much commercialization around Christmas, and not enough of a rememberance of the actual reason why we celebrate the holiday.
wow, my birthday September 28th also, and do not forget grandparents day, Sept 7
My birthday… September 28th. :0)
That’s ok, Don. I usually don’t know that many holidays myself. I only know Valentine’s, Christmas, St. Patrick’s, New Year’s Day. Let’s put it this way. I know the holidays that I’m usually off on.
In Mississippi where I live, the state offices are off for Confederate Day or Jefferson Davis Day. I was off once, but never knew the meaning behind that day. But some people get that day off.
so funny, holidays are no longer holidays but marketing opportunities.
loved your archived photos, you got a laugh out of me.
I use to work with Ryan on some projects. I will have to go and check out his new film on the mtv site. for some reason there was a blank space where I think you had a video link. thanks for the update.
It’s always fun to check into your blog.
Costco have all their Christmas stuff out already, and this is England!!!!
Figures I don’t know the holidays…
Bring on Halloween!
What can I say, Don. A lot of stores put up decorates or sell them a month or two before the actually day.
I use to work at a store and I remembered seeing Valentine’s Day stuff a month before the actually day.
I guess the stores are getting into the holiday spirit before the actually day.
Oh Don. Columbus Day is October 12th.
Go to say, Toys R Us, you will see the start of halloween costumes now. It actually is time for them to set up because halloween is a good seller.
Those other holidays don’t really have product’s to push.
The Christmas decorations are already up in Michaels. Yikes!
