I’ve all ready complained about this before, and it seems like I’m fighting a losing battle. So, instead of ranting and raving about it, I’m just going to make my statement and get off my soapbox.
Thanksgiving is only a week away. Can we hold off on the Christmas music until after Turkey Day?
I’m a music lover just as much as the next. (Geesh, as if that’s not completely obvious!) But, whatever happened to taken life in stride. Mama’s already given me a couple lectures on that topic, which I’m grateful for. Let’s take time to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday. Don’t worry, Christmas will get here just as quick if we don’t turn on the celebratory music.

I love christmas music any time of the year…but as far as the rest of christmas goes I make my kids wait until december before any decorations go up…my mother on the other hand has her tree up end of october which drives me crazy!
oops… I deleted more than one word but a whole sentence. But my comment should make some sense.. Rudolf is a winter holiday song. But O holy night.. that’s a christmas song.. that’s the kind I love to listen to even in the summertime.
I could listen to christmas music year round. Not Rudolf the red nose reindeer, that’s the christmas songs like O Holy Night, Joy to the World, etc. It really lifts your up when you really need it. And the great thing it- only few radio stations go full out christmas songs so it’s real easy to avoid it when and if you want too.
1. go UTES. 2. as i drove to st. george today i listened to christmas music the entire way!
Yes you have to repeat yourself. The listeners on a certain Utah radio station VOTED for the first day of Christmas music, and they voted Nov 1, the day after Halloween. This is not throwing a couple songs in randomly starting this day, and progressively adding more as we get closer (which is the way I like it), no, this is solid Christmas music ALL DAY LONG EVERY DAY.
Now I love Christmas music just as much as the next person, but there are only so many Christmas songs out there. When you hear those songs every day, three times for two months, it starts to kind of drive you crazy. So let’s not make ourselves sick with too much Christmas music (like with too much candy) and spend some serious time in reflection of gratitude for Thanksgiving. It is an underappreciated holiday.
By the way quote of the day is very right on the money, and how we as a human race should all behave!
I am a lot like mama I can take it or leave it….However the day after Halloween we went into Walmart and very faintly you could hear Christmas music..OMGOSH The Halloween clearance wasn’t even marked down 75% only 50%. I had not been back there since. The other night when we did do a little Christmas shopping! (The kids got a WII)and do know there music wasn’t even playing!
…she backs slowly away from her cd player …. disc in hand, she slyly replaces her original music choice with a non Christmas themed one, and tucks her original selection away for another week….
lol!!!!
Oh, Don. Is your Osmond temper coming out. LOL
Lucky for me. I haven’t heard any Christmas music yet, BUT!!! Our choir is practicing for our annual Christmas musical. Our music director loves to start two months before the musical. I have no idea why.
But than again. Like Mama. I listen to Christmas music every time of the year. I even popped your aunt’s CD in my CD a few weeks ago. Heck I sing Christmas song through the year too. I guess I’m ready for Christmas at that moment.
Well. I guess I have to get use to the Christmas music and of course the Christmas movies. After a while. They get boring. For some reason, I love watching A Christmas Story every Christmas. I probably would have seen the movie about 6 times by the time its over. Boy I need a life.
I have to agree with Mama on this one. Dish Network has already started their Christmas music channel and I have to say I listen to it a lot while I’m cooking. Having the ‘all Thanksgiving music’ channel just wouldn’t be the same. I mean, how many times could you listen to “over the river and through the woods” without losing your mind?
Am I lecturing you dearie? Or just giving you some sound advice? Either way, I thank you for the compliment!
I personally love Christmas music, and could listen to it year ’round, so it doesn’t bother me one bit to hear it on the radio so early. But, as I’ve said before, the stores need to hold off on promoting the holiday for a bit longer. Putting up Christmas decorations in September is a bit much.
Nothing like pushing the commercialism of the holiday, and forgetting all about why we’re REALLY celebrating Christmas (after all… Jesus IS the reason for the season!)
