For the past six years, Don Osmond has worked as a public/media relations professional with significant experience in both in-house and agency work. During much of his PR experience, Don oversaw the management of multiple clients and ensured marketing/PR goals were met by obtaining positive media coverage. He has written many articles that are now used sales pitching collateral. He is no stranger to the media; Don has been privileged to learn how to manage media expectations by participating first hand in his family’s public image as well as through his own personal experiences.
Don’s corporate public relations expertise was established from working closely with his clients; he executed media strategies that have exceeded specific goals and business objectives. During his agency work, Don served as a key member of client accounts focusing on media relations and executive positioning. Prior experience also includes working with clients such as Nike, Dell, Park City Jazz Foundation, ProPay, Corda Technologies and Silex Biometrics. Don successfully directed accounts through product launches, IPOs, corporate re-brands and crisis management. Don also has an exceptional portfolio including various press releases, case studies and contributed articles.
During the winter season, Don trains with Team Holm Bobsled, a Utah-based professional bobsled team. He began training in 2007 with his long-time friend and team captain Jeremy Holm. Both Jeremy and Don have a “need for speed” attitude and have competed in both the two- and four-man bobsled. They both have high hopes for the team in the future. During off-season training, they are either biking, working out at the gym, or pushing trucks in the parking lot.
Don recently started writing for Mormon Times, a division of the Deseret News. His articles tend to gravitate towards an older singles crowd; however, his writing style has intrigued a variety of demographics. This is one of the reasons why he decided to develop this blog: to provide his opinion and insight to a few topics of interest. Of course, since everything he writes about doesn’t always fit in with predetermined topics, he has a miscellaneous blog tab as well that catches the off-topic blog entry.
Don is a graduate of Brigham Young University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in communications with an emphasis in public relations. During his tenure, Don was involved with the Bradley Agency, a student-run PR agency. There he worked as an account executive organizing teams of four to five to execute PR initiatives for local businesses and non-profit organizations. Don was also a member of the PRSSA BYU Chapter. He was a member both the Salt Lake City and New York City Chapters of Public Relations Society of America.
