For the past couple weeks I’ve started blogging on Mormon Times. This all began by my association with a good friend from the Deseret News, Bob Wood. We had a conversation during my brother’s Showcase competition; we discussed the fact that I had done a lot of writing in the past and that they were looking for someone to write for the mid-singles crowd — keeping an LDS theme to it.
So, I began writing articles that discuss the matter of dating. (It seems to be a topic that comes up quite frequently.) There may be a lot of the articles coming in the future, but not all of them will be dating-based. However, they will be more focused on the challenges and topics we, as mid-singles, are faced with.
As a start, I have two all ready published — expect more to follow on a weekly basis. I love writing, and look forward to continuing this in the month and years ahead.
Here are the first two:
Where have all the cowboys gone?
I’ll post, on my blog, the direct links every week for those of you who would like to read my of my musing.
Thanks for the continued support.
I enjoy reading what you write. It is interesting because I witnessed something last night that goes with this theme and wanted to post and so your post today is perfect.
Last night I met my hubby for dinner, he is attending a summit all weekend and so I went and met him for dinner – Tony Roma’s – we both had very good salads – anyway – while I was waiting for him to arrive, I was sitting outside enjoying the beautiful weather, a young couple probably on prom date approached. The guy opened the door for date but then he went in first – I was so shocked. You would think that even if it is not in your routine to let date go in first that on this one special night – you would. But oh well.
On another note, in your tweet – you asked about suggestions for articles. OK this coming from a 50 year old happily married woman – how about suggestions for fun date nights – I know we touched on this in a previous APRIL FOOL’s BLOG post from you.
I am glad that you have this opportunity to write for Mormon Times.

You are an awesome writer Don!!! I loved reading them and I remember when Brent and I were dating thinking something was up because he was “too”nice. He opened doors, left notes with flowers and took me dancing in the rain. I even had to chat with him to slow it down. Now I just laugh because it was all of those things that also drew me to him. I do want to note that guys should not stop once they are married. It’s a lifetime thing. Also, I think for women to show respect to the guy, they need to let them do those things. Hmmm…maybe you could do an article for the ladies. I think some of them need to “Cowboy Up” too.
Not to mention any names but I still regret what a pill I was when you came out to Boston. Every time I think of it I cringe. Sheesh…I was a pill when I was single.

Congrats, Don for being a regular writer for the Mormon times. Very cool.
I have to say, Don. You are a good at writing, but than again. Writing runs in the family. If you don’t sing at least you do the other thing your family is good for too. Writing good songs.
Its cool that you’re focusing on the mid singles. For me being 29, never been on a date in my life and no definitely no guys lining up to date me, I love to hear from other single people in my age bracket or people who became single again after a divorced or became a widowed.
OK. Who are the mid-singles? I never heard of that one.

I have enjoyed reading your articles. I look forward to reading more. The Bob Wood you referred to did he teach at UVSC when we were there…1997-1998. I had a math teacher there with the same name. I think a couple of your cousins were in the same class too.
