Don Osmond: In my opinion…

Top of the list

A couple months ago I left the Blackberry world and purchased the G1. I never thought I would see the day when I would leave Blackberry; that phone was my brain! If I ever misplaced it, I was lost.

Well, I have a new love now. The G1.

Think iPhone, but better.

I just downloaded a new application for my phone the other day called Phonalyzr. It graphs your phone usage and lets you know who you are calling the most and the time you spend on your phone. (I’m not going to divulge the specifics… it’s a little embarrassing.)

But, I did wanna share one thing I found out… I’m a momma’s boy.

Yep, my mother is the one I call the most.

Pump It Up…

Filed under: Day in the Life of... — Tags: , — donosmond @ 4:29 pm

I was at the gym this morning, which got me thinking…

Why is it that guys have to walk around with their arms outstretched like a monkey?

Typically, girls bundle up and are greatly affected by the weather; guys, not so much. So, why do guys wear sweatshirts in the gym, while girls… well, not much?

Just a couple thoughts I had going through my mind at the gym.

…such a funny place.

What kind of Facebooker are you?

Filed under: Musing and Writing Projects — donosmond @ 9:02 pm

I was talking to a friend of mine about Facebook earlier today; specifically, what people use Facebook for. This got me thinking… “What type of Facebooker am I?”

Here are a couple titles I came up with:

Casual Facebooker – Most people fall into this category. This user logs into Facebook about 2-3 times a day; checking e-mail, pokes, and staying in touch with close friends.

Poker – This user is similar to the Casual Facebooker, but also initiates every “poke!” …rarely sending messages.

Friend-cacher – This user has +1000 friends, ninety percent of which he/she has never physically met.

Ubersocialite – This user’s social calendar is packed with Facebook parties throughout the month.

Mobile-uploader – This user is never at a computer, and would rather use his/her smartphone to update the status or reply to messages… occasionally, posting pictures on the go.

T.M.I.er – This user has no filter, especially when writing on your wall and commenting.

Tweeter – This user linked his/her Twitter account to Facebook and updates regularly.

Off-liner – This user is online and responds quickly to e-mail, but never uses the IM function of Facebook.

Groupie – This user invites all friends to every group.

Tagger – This is the photo enthusiast who tags everyone and every thing.

Application Junkie – This user has every application available on his/her Facebook page; even invites you to add a few!

Whatever you are… there you are. :)

He Did It!

First of all… Thank you to everyone who helped Brandon throughout Showcase. Last night Brandon performed both songs highlighted on Mormon Times and was awarded first place in the competition.

It was a real treat to watch him share his talent with the audience; something he doesn’t do very often.
Here is the article… Click here.
Thanks again!

Will the real Donny Osmond please stand up… please stand up

Filed under: Musing and Writing Projects — donosmond @ 10:47 am

Why do people find it funny to be someone their not? I suppose imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but it’s also deception.

So to dispel all falsities, this post is to let you know my father doesn’t have an interactive Facebook page. A few months ago, he asked me to set up an artist page on Facebook, but that’s it.

Here’s the link: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Donny-Osmond/10025062311?ref=s

Anything else is a fake.

The Twitter account is also legit, but he rarely updates it. There’s been talk about interacting more on Twitter, but I would wait until he makes a formal announcement on Donny.com before we start speculating if, when, and how.

In addition to this post, I need to send a shout out to the individual who helped me get my father and Marie’s Twitter accounts. Unbeknownst to us someone squatted the names, making it impossible to actually obtain both @donnyosmond and @marieosmond. In short, they have their accounts now.

I don’t know who you are, but THANK YOU!!! :)

There are a lot of fakes; visit Donny.com for official statements.

Thanks for your loyalties!

…and please let your friends know. :)

That Was Close

Filed under: Day in the Life of... — donosmond @ 10:12 am

A couple days ago, Salt Lake City got dumped on by a Spring snow storm. I didn’t think much of it until I left my apartment to go to the gym.

On the way to my car, and still half asleep, I heard tree branches above crackle under pressure from the added weight of the snowfall. The shuffle of branches caused snow to fall on my head and go down the back of my shirt. The cold rushing down my back made me jump forward; I didn’t appreciate Mother Nature’s wake-up call.

…but that was no wake-up call, more like a warning — “LOOK OUT, BELOW!”

BANG!

I looked behind me, and this is what I saw…

That was close!

Testing the Magic of the World Wide Web

Ok, so I want to try something out…

A couple weeks ago my team and I were forerunners for World Cup. Unfortunately, we crashed. What’s more, we never got any pictures or video of the crash.

So, I want to see if we can find video/photo footage of our team’s crash during World Cup. I know there’s video or photos somewhere, because when we got out of the sled there were at least 20 people there taking pictures.

This will test the “six degrees of separation” theory and social networking on the Internet.

Here are the details I can provided:

Where: Utah Olympic Park near Park City, UT
When: Friday, February 13, 2008 at about 2:00 pm MDT
Who: Team Holm Bobsled (Forerunners)

If you know anyone that has photos or video, tweet me: Don_Osmond.

Let’s see what we can find out. This could get interesting.

Where in the World is Chivalry?

Filed under: Musing and Writing Projects — Tags: — donosmond @ 11:54 am

I will never forget the day my father pulled me aside for mistreating my mother; I was probably 8 years-old. The following Family Home Evening, my brothers and I were taught the definition of chivalry and what constitutes a chivalrous act.

By no specific fault of either gender, chivalry has gone the way of the dinosaurs — quite disappointedly. Here’s a video illustrating what I mean… (start around min 2 and you only need to watch about a min of the clip; more if you like the video)

Specifically, in dating, this has become apparent with a few (not all) of the girls I’ve gone out with. I’ll never forget one experience I had on a date about 3 years ago when I opened the door for my date; she looked at me and said (no lie), “What! You think I can’t get the d@%* door myself? I’ve got two arms, ya know.” It was a blind date, so I can’t blame her for not wanting to go. LOL!

I guess the point I’m trying to get across is this: Can we all try a little harder to be more chivalrous, or gracious to accept chivalry?

The world won’t change over night, but it’s worth a try.

Go Back And Conquer

Filed under: Health and Fitness — Tags: , — donosmond @ 11:34 am

I’ve learned a lot during my (near) 30 year on earth, but one lesson has stuck with me since high school: don’t submit to defeat; go back and conquer.

True there are times in our lives when we feel as though we’ve been completely destroyed and there is no hope, but take a second look at what has happened. You gain experience that you would have otherwise never obtained.

About two weeks ago, our bobsled team crashed during World Cup in front of our friends and colleagues. Yeah it was a little embarrassing, but that day we proved to ourselves that we could push harder and run faster. The crash was merely an opportunity for us to prove ourselves.

That was the last time we were at the track… until last night.

After spending two weeks getting the sled fixed – admittedly, I didn’t help with the fixing since I’ve never welded nor replaced fiberglass – we strapped on our helmets and went down the track.

We took it easy last night, but the principle remains the same – go back and conquer!

The season finishes up this week, and I’m so looking forward to the summer. Bring on the sun!
