Hat Trick

Filed under: Health and Fitness — Tags: — donosmond @ 2:03 pm

Jeremy and I hit the track late yesterday evening for a couple runs down the track before taking the Thanksgiving holiday off. And, we are so glad that we did.

(Flashback) The last time we were up on the track, our best time was a 52.25. Starting off the season with that fast of a run got us very excited for this season. It means we are only getting faster.

Well… on the first run of the evening, we finished with a 52.25. Can you believe it? The exact time from our previous night’s run. We couldn’t believe it. What’s more, the skeleton athletes that had gone before told us that the track was running a little slower than before. (What does that mean for us? In theory, we’re going faster!)

Totally stoked from our first run, we set for our second of the evening. No lie. We finished the track in 52.25. Three times in a row! As we crossed the finish line, Jeremy was laughing hysterically. What are the chances?

I wish I could say that we got faster as the evening wore on, but we didn’t. However, the saving grace was that all four of our down times were nearly the same – consistency is key.

Take a minute to reflect on what you are thankful for.

…me? I’m thankful for my family. Love ‘em all! (Even my sisters!)

52.25

Filed under: Health and Fitness — Tags: — donosmond @ 2:07 pm

Not a bad time for the first time back on the track…

Yes, I got back in the sled on Saturday morning. It felt good to be back on the ice. Jeremy was feeling a little frisky and decided to take some strong lines. (I’m still feeling sore around the neck.)

So, there’s the bench mark for the rest of the season: 52.25. That’s the time to beat, and to keep beating everything we go sliding. We might even be heading up there during the Thanksgiving holiday. Once you get addicted to this stuff… it’s dangerous! :)

…we really want to be in the 51s.

Raising boys… Get used to it!

Filed under: Day in the Life of... — Tags: — donosmond @ 9:57 am

I get random e-mails from time to time, most of which I delete without reading. This one, however, I found to be quite funny.

The following came from an anonymous Mother in Austin, Texas…

Things I’ve learned from my boys (honest and not kidding):

1. A king size waterbed holds enough water to fill a 2,000 sq. ft. house 4 inches deep.

2. If you spray hair spray on dust bunnies and run over them with roller blades, they can ignite.

3. A 3-year old Boy’s voice is louder than 200 adults in a crowded restaurant.

4. If you hook a dog leash over a ceiling fan, the motor is not strong enough to rotate a 42-pound Boy wearing Batman underwear and a Superman cape. It is strong enough, however, if tied to a paint can, to spread paint on all four walls of a 20×20 ft. room.

5. You should not throw baseballs up when the ceiling fan is on. When using a ceiling fan as a bat, you have to throw the ball up a few times before you get a hit. A ceiling fan can hit a baseball a long way.

6. The glass in windows (even double-pane) doesn’t stop a baseball hit by a ceiling fan.

7. When you hear the toilet flush and the words “uh oh”, it’s already too late.

8. Brake fluid mixed with Clorox makes smoke, and lots of it.

9. A six-year old Boy can start a fire with a flint rock even though a 36-year old Man says they can only do it in the movies.

10. Certain Lego’s will pass through the digestive tract of a 4-year old boy.

11. Play dough and microwave should not be used in the same sentence.

12. Super glue is forever.

13. No matter how much Jell-O you put in a swimming pool you still can’t walk on water.

14. Pool filters do not like Jell-O.

15. VCR’s do not eject “PB & J” sandwiches even though TV commercials show that they do.

16. Garbage bags do not make good parachutes.

17. Marbles in gas tanks make lots of noise when driving.

18. You probably DO NOT want to know what that odor is.

19. Always look in the oven before you turn it on; plastic toys do not like ovens.

20. The fire department in Austin, TX has a 5-minute response time.

21. The spin cycle on the washing machine does not make earthworms dizzy.

22. It will, however, make cats dizzy.

23. Cats throw up twice their body weight when dizzy.

24. 80% of Men who read this will try mixing the Clorox and brake fluid.

25. Women will pass this on to almost all of their friends, with or without kids.

* a) For those with no children – this is totally hysterical!

* b) For those who already have children past this age, this is hilarious.

* c) For those who have children this age, this is not funny.

* d) For those who have children nearing this age, this is a warning.

* e) For those who have not yet had children, this is birth control.

It Comes In Threes!

I don’t wan to say it… I don’t!

Yesterday, the track was closed to bobsledding because of the luge. Tonight… I have no idea.

But this is the end of my string of bad luck. I know I’m sliding tomorrow. (I hope)

In better news, Brandon is in the lead right now. I really hope he wins.

Do I really need to repeat myself?

I’ve all ready complained about this before, and it seems like I’m fighting a losing battle. So, instead of ranting and raving about it, I’m just going to make my statement and get off my soapbox.

Thanksgiving is only a week away. Can we hold off on the Christmas music until after Turkey Day?

I’m a music lover just as much as the next. (Geesh, as if that’s not completely obvious!) But, whatever happened to taken life in stride. Mama’s already given me a couple lectures on that topic, which I’m grateful for. Let’s take time to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday. Don’t worry, Christmas will get here just as quick if we don’t turn on the celebratory music.

The Holy War

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — donosmond @ 6:13 pm

Every Fall in Utah, there is a Holy War; a battle of schools – the U vs. the Y.

Being a graduate of Brigham Young University, my allegiances must remain with my alma mater. However, Jeremy is a Utah grad. You can only imagine how those games are watched with my family.

So, let’s have a little poll with this one… Who will win the rivalry football game? BYU or UofU

If you don’t know either team, just pick one. (I mean, seriously. My polls are always just for fun.)

Mommy… Can I go bobsledding now?

Filed under: Health and Fitness — Tags: , — donosmond @ 11:07 am

I was so excited to go bobsledding last week, but due to track closures and previous plans to see my father’s show in Vegas… bobsledding didn’t happen.

Not this week! Oh no! I’m wishing upon my lucky stars and keeping my rabbits feet close by to make sure I go sledding this week.

The plan is to go up tomorrow for a 2-man refresher run; Friday we’ll be warming up the 4-man; Saturday for time trials. We ended last season pretty well, and with all the training we’ve been doing over the summer, we are hoping to beat those times – Saturday, we’ll find out.

And just because this post is about bobsledding, don’t even think that I’ve not forgotten to remind everyone to vote for my brother. Until this competition is over, you’ll find a link at the bottom of all my posts reminding you to go vote for Brandon…

…and it’s because of you!

Thanks to all you who have voted for my brother; he’s expressed his thanks, and is very appreciative.

Now… I’m going to be a little cheeky, and ask a rhetorical question. Did you vote today? Again? You can! – (CLICK HERE) – You can vote once every day until the competition finishes. (Dec 15)

You know, this takes me back to the days were I was asking your help with voting for Marie on Dancing with the Stars. I appreciate the support you give my family.

Thanks!
