April Fool’s Day Comes Early

Filed under: Day in the Life of... — donosmond @ 3:35 pm

I went to bed late last night not expecting to see what I saw this morning – SNOW!! And to think, I was riding my bike early last week.

I was so sure we were done with cold weather that I boxed up my winter clothing.

I guess it’s God’s way of playing a practical joke.

Happy Early April Fool’s Day!

Punked in Utah

Some of you know my friend Charan. Ever since he purchased his first video camera, he’s been addicted to making videos. Many of those videos can be found on YouTube. He also can be a little jokester.

Here is a little background before you watch the following video:

  • Charan is from India
  • His full name is Ramacharan Prabhakar
  • He is a snowboarding instructor at Sundance

All that said, time for a little entertainment

Have a great weekend!

Behind the Scenes

So, Jeremy has recently posted pictures from our Getty Images shoot. The pictures aren’t professionally done; rather these were taken by an onlooker to give you an idea of what goes on behind the scenes.

Let me just say, it was freezing that day.

Directing Traffic

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — donosmond @ 9:41 pm

So, how long must someone direct traffic to their blog following a URL change? 2 weeks? 6 months? A YEAR?

Personally, I would just rather say “I told you”, and then let the stragglers Google my blog. Alas, I’m nicer than that. I figure I’ll wait at least another two weeks before deleting my previous URL.

Then again… Let’s take a poll.

Stay tuned for bobsledding pictures. The Getty shoot went well and we should have photos in about 3 weeks or so.

At least that’s what they told us.

If you want to read about our experience, check out Jeremy’s blog post.

Images of India

For a moment of culture… my friend, Rama, went home to India in July ’06. During his trip he took some video and backed it with music to provide us with a little cultural lesson on India.

It’s a lengthy video so don’t be watching this while you are at work.

Thanks for sharing Rama! (aka Charan)

Wimping Out In Battle

Just a little tidbit of helpful information…

Pick your battles. It’s okay to back down and let someone else think they’ve won; especially, if it will keep the tirade from continuing on for days.

Top Ten Reasons to Fly Southwest

Filed under: Day in the Life of..., Musing and Writing Projects — Tags: — donosmond @ 8:51 am

10. The diet plan – one small bag of peanuts and a drink (no refills)
9. Flight attendants don’t know where the plane is going. “Thank you for boarding flight 329: non-stop service to Seattle.” (Passenger replies) “I want to go to Salt Lake!”
8. Your row mate gives you rocks. Did I mention he’s 45 years-old?
7. Windows are bursting at the seams! (I was a little nervous flying; I thought the whole plane was going to fall apart.)
6. “Today’s in-flight movie… oh wait, we don’t offer movies.”
5. Uncanny ways of reviewing the safety features – “In case you haven’t flown since 1973, the flat part of the seatbelt goes in the buckle…”
4. Ground crew pop-in just to say “good night” on an evening flight.
3. A new paint job is considered an upgraded plane.
2. Your next flight could be one of the lucky 44 planes grounded because of safety restrictions.
1. If you’re boarding section C, just face it… you’re getting a middle seat.

The Cyborg Reality

Filed under: Musing and Writing Projects — donosmond @ 6:45 pm

Little help here… While attending VON.x Spring 2008, I notice a cyborg pandemic; the wireless earpiece for cell phones. Since when did it become socially acceptable to permanently attach your Bluetooth headset to your ear?

Granted there are some headsets that are less obtrusive to the human face, but there are a few of the more parasitic monstrosities that seem to overtake the face.

Good heavens, if you are on the phone and multitasking (i.e. driving, typing on the computer, etc.) I can understand. But if you are talking to someone face-to-face, do them a favor and get rid of your electronic appendage.

Besides, how do I know you don’t have someone on the phone eavesdropping?

It’s Official – Immortalization

Utah Bobsled Athletes Immortalized by Getty Images

Team Holm Bobsled selected for exclusive photo shoot

SALT LAKE CITY—March 18, 2008—Following the successes of the 2007/2008 season, Team Holm Bobsled, a Utah-based United States bobsled team, has been selected by world-renowned Getty Images to participate in a special photo shoot at the Utah Olympic Park in Park City on March 23.

“We’ve been very successful this season, but to be immortalized by Getty is a dream come true,” said Jeremy Holm, team captain and driver of Team Holm Bobsled. “I can’t think of a better way to finish a full season of hard-work, dedication and sacrifice. We will remember, and be proud of this for the rest of our lives.”

This season, Team Holm Bobsled was awarded first place twice in both local and regional competitions. The team has also medaled in years past during various competitions.

The photo shoot will involve athletes in still and action shots portraying both two-man and four-man bobsleds; skeleton and luge athletes will also participate in photos.

“The 2010 Winter Olympic Games are coming up, and it’s our dream is to compete in front of the eyes of the world,” said Holm. ”This is one step toward fulfilling that dream; it will be both amazing and intimidating.”

The pictures will be added to Getty’s immense stock photo library and made available for various uses including magazines, newspapers, Web sites, etc.

About Team Holm Racing:

Team Holm Racing has included sports such as drag racing, street rodding, competition rock crawling, and bobsled. The bobsled division is Team Holm Racing’s flagship sport, and has been in existence since 1997. The impetus of its development came from a visit to the Bear Hollow Winter Spots Park where Holm and his father witnessed athletes exceeding speeds of 130 km/h (75 mph), and subjecting their bodies to as much as five times the force of gravity. Since that day, Holm was hooked in to the adrenalin rush and has competed in races on the national and international level. The team has been awarded 6 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 1 bronze, with 11 top-ten finishes.

Team Holm Bobsled is a registered team of the Fédération Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobogganing (FIBT), the international bobsleigh governing body; and the United States Bobsled and Skeleton Federation.
