I was on the phone last night with a close Canadian friend of mine. We were discussing our typical topic of conversation – dating. She made the comment: “Don, you’re lucky you’re a guy. Being a girl, you have to sit and wait for a guy to ask you out.”
It hit me today while going to work. Life is about passion.
I’m not just talking about intimacy, ‘cause heavens knows I’m a work in progress in that department. But seriously; life is about passion.
If you are lacking passion you are missing out on some of the greatest opportunities life has to offer. Granted there may be challenges; they come to us all. But, “men (and women) are that they might have joy.”
So, here’s my little soapbox. Find something you love to do, and… JUST DO IT! (I think Nike had it right.)
This is the last week of training before the track closes for the rest of the year. And in honor of the end of the season, I’ve got a short video for you all — so you can kind of experience what it is my team and I actually do.
Those in the UK, you may have already seen this before. It’s a short clip from Top Gear.
Well the polls are in, and it seems that the majority of you who read this blog voted for Obama.
(For those of you who read this blog and don’t participate in these polls, I don’t want to hear any complaining. You had more than enough time to vote.)
For those who voted Clinton, McCain and Huckabee, click here for reasons to change your vote.
I just watched a man hand back a cashier $40, because she gave him the wrong amount in change! No lie!
But here’s the thing… He had already walked away without noticing her mistake; it wasn’t until he was about 10 steps away from the register that he realized her error. Which means he had to make a conscience decision to turn around and give the money back.
Hallelujah! There are honest people in the world!!!
In all seriousness, it’s been a while since I’ve actually given out “My Opinion,” which I’m entitling: “The Downfall of a Perfectionist.”
To the Perfectionist: Have you ever noticed that you begin to fall behind in projects, assignments, duties, etc., because you the current project has to be perfect? I mention this only because of my own perfectionistic, oxymoronic foible.
“The world is an imperfect place. Screws fall out all the time.” (Another movie quote)
So? Deal with it. I think all too often we a so self-consumed with the idea of perfection, and the desire to obtain it, that we begin to over exert too much time and energy into project that would be embraced by others as good work. There is no sense in perfection.
The alternative is far more liberating — good effort.
Think about it. Is the average person really going to care if you went with the color Mother of Pearl rather than Eggshell or Off-White? or, your preference of “which” or “that” while proofreading?
Life is too short to be a perfectionist.
Accept the fact that you will have good days and bad. I can promise you life will be more enjoyable if you stop and make a mistake once in your life.
For those of you who have been following Jeremy’s and my blogs (first off, thank you… and) you know that we have been dying to break the 52-mark (seconds) this season. Well, we didn’t break it, but we got dang close – 52.03! That’s three hundredths of a second!
Additionally, Jeremy and I have also wanted a 5.5s push start this season as well. Well, we didn’t get that either, but we did shave off some time – 5.60s.
This morning we were on the mountain. (Did I mention we were up there late last night as well?) We had one 4-man run and one 2-man run; even had some supporters there – our families. That was a nice added touch, and even got video of our 4-man start. Though I don’t know if I want that posted. Spandex was never meant to look attractive, no matter how in shape you’re in.
I would have to say we’ve got a really good team of great guys. And, yes there is a little razzing going on sometimes, but that’s all in good fun… and motivation.
You know, I was going to write a little about our bobsledding experience last night, but Jeremy beat me to the punch. So, instead may you all be whisked away through the mystical, magical portal of cyberspace… Click here
