…Commuting Back to Work

Filed under: Day in the Life of... — donosmond @ 11:28 am

Right. So, I mentioned my evening commute from work yesterday. Today, I would like to briefly mention my morning commute to work. It took me about 2 hours!

There were countless car accidents – one car fire! And a couple of slide off’s.

And… if you drive a maroon mini van with rust corrosion, I would kindly ask… GET OFF MY TAIL! (And see below) :)

Driving lesson 110: Icy Road Conditions

When there is ice on the roads, your car will not stop as quickly as you may think. Be sure to give yourself ample stopping space between you and the car in front of you – ME!

Sedan 1 – SUVs 0

Filed under: Day in the Life of... — donosmond @ 8:42 pm

It is interesting to note the latest Utah movement in car buying has been “bigger is better.” This strange phenomenon, however, is seriously flawed.

Today started off as any normal day to work with the regular I-15 commute, but then the afternoon rolled into town with a massive storm front – White Out! It left I-don’t-know-how-many inches of snow on the roads. Suffice it to say, the snowplows had their work cut out for them.

On my way home, I began playing a game. (Since what normally is a 25 min commute, ended up being an hour and 45 min!) This game was called… Count The Stranded SUVs. I’ll spare you the details and cut to the chase. I counted about – 14! Here is a small list of SUVs that can’t cut the snow:

  • Toyota Sequoia
  • Geo Tracker
  • Pontiac Aztek
  • Porsche Cayenne
  • Toyota 4Runner
  • Dodge Durango
  • Hummer H2 (This was clearly driver error!)

True, I should have stopped and helped get some of these people out. But, if I stopped I’d get stuck, and compound the problem. My sincerest apologies for those who got stuck in the snow today. I hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

Music Videos

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — donosmond @ 11:02 am

I rarely just post videos for posting sake, but I found these videos today whilst surfing the YouTube!

Being a percussionist, you can probably guess which of the two was my fav.

Not only were the videos amazing to watch, but the music was pleasant to listen to as well.

It’s a shame that these a year old and I’ve just now found them on YouTube. Anyway, take a listen/watch.

Post-dinner Phone Call

Filed under: Dating, Day in the Life of... — donosmond @ 3:30 pm

So, ‘ere’s the update from Devin.

Phone rings—

“Devin, what’s up?”

“I just dropped her off, and had to tell you what happened.”

“I’m all ears.”

“K, so, I picked her up at her place. Man, she was looking hot, and real cordial…”

“Hot and cordial… two words I’ve never thought about putting together. Anyway…”

“Yeah well, I’m kinda on cloud nine right now. But, anyway… we went to dinner and it was amazing. We laughed, joked and talked the whole night. She is really easy to talk to. I totally relaxed and opened up. It was just awesome!!!”

“That’s a good thing. You didn’t over share, did you?”

“No. Got close, but no.”

“Good. What do you mean by ‘got close’?”

“Well, I almost said something that could have been construed as…”

(This part of the story has been omitted by request of Devin. Sorry.)

And the conversation continued as thus…

“So, when are you going to ask her out again?”

“I’d like to ask her out for tomorrow, but I figure you might suggest otherwise.”

“Umm, yeah. You need to wait for a little while for her to find her interest in you.”

“Uh?”

“Never mind. Just wait a while.”

“How long?”

“You’ll know. At least wait until next week to call her. Besides, I wouldn’t worry about it. From what you told me about dinner, sounds like she really likes you.”

“You think?”

“Yep!”

I hope this is as much fun for you to read, as it is for me to listen to these stories. I love it!

(For the “posters”: if you’ve got any advice you’d like to give Devin, drop a comment.)

The Countdown

Filed under: Day in the Life of..., Musing and Writing Projects — donosmond @ 1:53 pm

Some of you have asked about my recent addition to “My Opinion,” and are curious as to why I’ve chosen to include a countdown to the 2010 Olympics. Well the short answer is… I wanna go!

Training for bobsled began for me this season. (Yes, I’m the rookie – “Blackout!”) And so, a goal is not a goal unless it is written down. What better way to “write it down” than to have it here on my blog.

So there you have it – my declaration. Will I make it? …I’ll be there one way or another. :)

"I do. I mean… Yes!"

Filed under: Dating, Day in the Life of... — donosmond @ 10:31 am

So, this is just too good not to post; I hope my friend doesn’t mind me sharing this…

Devin called me up the other day as follow up to a date that he was very much looking forward to. He has been wanting to ask this girl out for… I don’t know how long! He finally mustered the courage and asked her out to dinner.

(For those who don’t know Devin, He is a great guy, and has a lot going for him. However, in the past it has been difficult for him to ask girls out. The Shy Guy, if you will. But, a heart of gold.)

Anyway, he asked this girl out for dinner last week — via voicemail. Apparently, she works a lot and he figured it would be worth just leaving a message. He knew she would call him back.

She did! (Mind you, she did wait till near the eleventh hour.)

The way Devin explained, it was pure elation!

–The Return Call–

“Hello, is this Devin?”

“It is.”

“Hi, this is Emily. You left me a message last week; just wanted to call you back…” (…and thus begins the chitchat.)

A little while later, Devin goes in for the ‘kill’ and asks her to dinner. “So, I was wondering if you would like to go to dinner with me this Thursday; do you like sushi?”

“I do. I mean… Yes!”

(Editorial note: As Devin is explaining this to me he says, “She said [I do] just as I imagined she has in my dreams.” ME: “Hold on there buddy! Yes, I know you like her a lot. But, keep your cool. Take your time and really get to know her.”)

Followed it up with a little more advice. He’s supposed to let me know how it goes later. He’ll be fine. But, I can’t wait to hear what happens on the date.

Equal Opportunist

Filed under: Day in the Life of..., Musing and Writing Projects — donosmond @ 8:30 am

(Disclaimer: I’m not sexist. It’s just that some advice should be taken into consideration before adherence.)

So, I went to Jiffy Lube the other day for my quarterly oil change. To my amazement, there was a young woman working at the station. I was a little surprised, but she handled everything appropriately and asked all the typical questions before servicing my car.

Following the service, she began reviewing the status of my car and letting me know what she had just done.

“Everything looks great,” she said. “You must really look after your car. I just see average wear on your car; nothing out of the ordinary.”

“Yeah, I like it.”

“There is one thing.”

“What’s that?”

“Your brake fluid is extremely low, and we’re not authorized to service that part of your car. You’ll need to take care of that yourself, or have your auto dealer service your car.”

“Good to know.” Then thinking to myself — “I think I know how to handle that.”

Well, I drove directly to Checker Auto Parts and purchased brake fluid, then popped the hood… to my amazement my brake fluid was fine! The level was around the average mark.

Moral of the story: Consider your sources before following their advice.

–Now don’t think for a minute that I’m trying to through punches and the girls. I’m sure there have been times when we’ve taken advice from guys when it would have been much better to get a girl’s suggestion.

Just a thought.

The Great Salt Lake

Filed under: Day in the Life of..., Musing and Writing Projects — donosmond @ 3:59 pm

OK,

Going back to my earlier post of the snowplow. (I’m not retracting anything I’ve already mentioned, but…)

Just because we live in a city where one natural resource is practically limitless, doesn’t mean we should be using an extortionate amount on our streets.

I think my car has officially changed color from silver to SALT!

Good heavens!
