As ridiculous as this question may be, you have a valid point. I know a number of guys that have dated girls for two months or so and later found out that the girl was only using him for free dinners and gifts. However, the same holds true for the girls. There are those who give so much in a relationship and see nothing in return. Oh, the debauchery of the few, which ruin the angelic decencies of the rest.
Look at the unselfish acts you have done for your “significant other.” I am not stating that you should play a game of quid pro quo, but it’s best you look at the situation as equality in partnership.
I don’t think I would consider myself an expert on the topic of equal partnerships, but I know of a few people who have given so much in a relationship and rarely get anything in return. These are they who are codependent in relationships.
Take a step back and look at your relationship objectively. It might not even be a bad idea to ask the advice of a trusted friend or family member. The old adage, “love is blind” has never been so true. Look at what you give in the relationship
